About this converter
Temperature is expressed on three main scales. Celsius is the everyday scale used in most of the world, where water freezes at 0 °C and boils at 100 °C. Fahrenheit is the common scale in the United States, where water freezes at 32 °F and boils at 212 °F. Kelvin is the scientific scale used in physics, chemistry and engineering, whose zero point is absolute zero (−273.15 °C), the coldest theoretically possible temperature, and water freezes at 273.15 K. Converting between them is a simple linear formula: to go from Celsius to Fahrenheit multiply by 9, divide by 5 and add 32; to go the other way subtract 32, multiply by 5 and divide by 9. This temperature converter applies those formulas instantly for any value you enter, and it works in both directions so you can switch from a weather report in one unit to the exact equivalent in another. It is useful for cooking recipes that use a different oven scale, for converting body temperature, for science homework, for comparing international weather forecasts, and for any situation where an exact temperature match matters. Select the scale you have, type the number, choose the target scale and press Convert.
